{"id":1652,"date":"2020-10-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-10-09T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ec2-34-224-182-223.compute-1.amazonaws.com\/dermatology.healthcare.pro\/index.php\/2020\/10\/09\/specific-factors-tied-to-unemployment-with-ms-diagnosis\/"},"modified":"2020-10-13T16:10:09","modified_gmt":"2020-10-13T16:10:09","slug":"specific-factors-tied-to-unemployment-with-ms-diagnosis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ec2-34-224-182-223.compute-1.amazonaws.com\/dermatology.healthcare.pro\/index.php\/2020\/10\/09\/specific-factors-tied-to-unemployment-with-ms-diagnosis\/","title":{"rendered":"Specific Factors Tied to Unemployment With MS Diagnosis"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Many of the factors related to maintenance of employment are alterable<\/h3>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>FRIDAY, Oct. 9, 2020 (HealthDay News) &#8212; Disease course, fatigue, self-efficacy, and diet and exercise are major determinants of unemployment for patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), according to a study published in the Nov. 1 issue of <i>Multiple Sclerosis and Related Disorders<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Lauren Strober, Ph.D., from the Kessler Foundation in East Hanover, New Jersey, assessed disease, person-specific factors (e.g., personality, self-efficacy), and health-related behaviors that may be tied to unemployment among 252 individuals with MS.<\/p>\n<p>The study found that those &#8220;at risk&#8221; for leaving the workforce were more likely to have a progressive course and reported greater fatigue, sleep problems, pain, depression, and anxiety. Those at risk also reported lower levels of locus of control and MS self-efficacy and engaging in maladaptive coping. They also endorsed higher levels of neuroticism and lower levels of conscientiousness, extraversion, and agreeableness. Those &#8220;not at risk&#8221; reported engaging in more positive health-related behaviors. In total, 16 percent of the variance was accounted for by disease course, fatigue, MS self-efficacy, and diet\/exercise.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Findings suggest that greater consideration and interventions tailored to these factors is warranted, which may assist individuals with MS staying employed and\/or making appropriate accommodations,&#8221; Strober writes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msard-journal.com\/article\/S2211-0348(20)30562-9\/fulltext\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Abstract\/Full Text (subscription or payment may be required)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Copyright \u00a9 2020 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthday.com\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HealthDay<\/a>.
