FRIDAY, April 23, 2021 (HealthDay News) — Psoriasis incidence in the United States is steady, but increases with age and is higher among Whites, according to a study published in the April issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology<\/em>.<\/p>\n Joshua Burshtein, from the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra\/Northwell in New Hyde Park, New York, and colleagues used electronic medical records from 2,152,192 individuals (2014 to 2018) to estimate the incidence of psoriasis in the United States.<\/p>\n The researchers found that the incidence rate in the overall population was 63.8 per 100,000 person-years. There was increased incidence seen with age, with a peak among individuals aged 70 to 79 years (92.3 per 100,000 person-years). Men and women had a similar incidence (62.8 and 64.8 per 100,000 person-years, respectively). Rates were higher for Whites (75.3 per 100,000 person-years) than for Hispanic\/Latinos (52.2 per 100,000 person-years) and Blacks (24.9 per 100,000 person-years).
